Yangon, estado policial.
Llegue a Yangon después de 20 h de autobús y el primer día me lo pase descansando en el hotel. Elegí el Motherland Inn 2 (www.myanmarmotherlandinn.com), esta un poco alejado del centro pero proporcionan taxi gratuito hasta el aeropuerto, si reservas antes de llegar también van a buscarte gratis. Son 7 $ por habitación con un desayuno incluido bastante bueno. Es la base de operaciones de muchos mochileros que llegan a Yangon, el equipo de personas que lo lleva es muy amigable y hablan ingles bastante bien. Una cosa muy interesante de este hotel es el servicio de consigna gratuito, puedes dejar todo lo que no sea imprescindible mientras recorres Myanmar. Los 4 días que pase aquí fueron muy divertidos.
En Yangon me encontré con una ciudad en estado policial. Militares y policías en cada esquina, en cada templo, en todo los sitios… esto es un problema ya que en Myanmar esta prohibido fotografiar instalaciones militares o miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad… y si están por todas partes pocas fotos puedes hacer.
Al ser la ciudad del gobierno es muy complicado hablar de política o del país porque siempre hay alguien ”observando”.
Sorprende llegar y encontrarte la única ciudad de Asia que no tiene motos, según me contaron no les gustan a los miembros del gobierno y es mas fácil atentar contra ellos desde una moto que desde un coche, por tanto las han prohibido en el centro urbano.
Otra de las cosas que no facilita demasiado visitar la ciudad es que cobran entrada en casi todos los sitios. Las pagodas principales como la Sule Paya, Botataung Paya o la impresionante Shwedagon Paya tienen entradas de entre 3 y 5 $, incluso en algunos parques hay que pagar entrada. Yo me negué a dar mas dinero a ese gobierno y solo fui a la Shwedagon Paya, que es casi obligatorio por su belleza. Esta pagoda es un centro de peregrinación para los birmanos, es una especie de Meca que todo birmano debe visitar, al menos, una vez en la vida.
Aparte de su hermosura es muy bonito sentir la espiritualidad cuando después del atardecer, decenas de birmanos se acercan para rezar, hablar, leer o simplemente observar su belleza.
Los monjes de esta pagoda tienen prohibido hablar con extranjeros pero aprovechan la mas mínima oportunidad en la que no hay militares cerca para contarte los secretos de este templo milenario que se construyo sobre uno de los 8 cabellos que Siddharta Gautama (Buda) entrego a una pareja de birmanos.
Por lo demás Yangon es la ciudad con mas vida social de todo Myanmar. Tiene bares y discotecas, aunque cierran a las 23:30. Seria una ciudad mas interesante si no fuese por la constante represión que se percibe en todos lados.
Desde ella volví a Bangkok, aunque me quede con ganas de conocer un poco mas de este impresionante país. Han sido 24 días de sensaciones en un pais interesante, autentico y en el que te llegas a sentir verdaderamente acogido por sus habitantes. No se si en este viaje encontrare otro lugar parecido.
