Crucé de Costa Rica a Nicaragua por el paso de Los Chiles, es la única forma de cruzar la frontera en bote, el resto son fronteras terrestres, aunque no fue esto lo que me hizo tomar la decisión de ir por esta vía. Era el camino que parecía más corto para ir de La Fortuna (Costa Rica) al lago Nicaragua, la idea: intentar llegar al archipiélago de Solentiname (nunca llegué, sueño de solentiname…). Al final el camino se convirtió en la manera más larga de llegar de La Fortuna a Granada.
La frontera no está abierta 24h, solo pasan unos pocos botes (la mayoría transportan contrabando de comida y ropas) y una vez en el lado Nica de la frontera nos dijeron que el barco para Solentiname salía 2 días después… al final tocó ir hasta Managua y después a Granada todo en chiken bus (la única forma de salir de ese atolladero) fueron 10 o 12 horas por carretera rodeando el lago, si a esos pequeños tramos de asfalto entre los baches se les puede llamar carretera.
Eso si, la llegada a Granada fue preciosa, ya enseñaré fotos en el siguiente post. Y fue allí donde conocí a la gente de La Esperanza de Granada, una ONG que se encarga de la educación y alfabetización de niños en escuelas de la región. Formada en su mayoría por voluntarios de distintos países que ayudan dando clases en las escuelas más desfaborecidas de la zona. Antes de irme a la isla de Ometepe hablamos de la posibilidad de estar unos días con ellos haciendo un reportaje sobre su trabajo y cuando volví de la isla me dieron su beneplácito para empezar mi labor.
Estuve casi una semana siguiendo a los voluntarios por las diversas escuelas, retratando a los niños e intentando mostrar la increíble labor que allí realizan.
Os dejo algunas fotos de esos días… más o menos sería Octubre de 2008. Hice cientos, si me veo con tiempo intento subir más.
