Doha, la capital del pequeño emirato de Catar, fue la primera parada en el viaje a China. Para volar de Madrid a Beijing teníamos que hacer una escala de unas cuantas horas en la ciudad y la compañía Qatar Airways tiene un servicio por el que, para escalas de entre 8 y 20 horas, te ofrecen alojamiento y transportes a/desde el aeropuerto de forma gratuita. Solo hay que ir al mostrador de llegadas e informar de la escala, el resto es sencillo.

A no ser que hayas perdido el pasaporte en el avión y toque mover Doha con Santiago para conseguir recuperarlo. Al final todo se solucionó y tal vez esta circunstancia hizo que el tiempo se nos viniese encima para conseguir el alojamiento (hay que estar con todo gestionado antes de 8 horas para tu siguiente vuelo) y nos saltásemos los controles de visado y los consiguientes 20€ del mismo.

Total, que 20 € más ricos de lo que esperábamos y con una habitación individual por persona con cuarto de baño con su taza y su ducha y todas sus cositas decidimos no malgastar el tiempo durmiendo y nos fuimos a dar una vuelta. Eran las 2 am y ya teníamos claro que no íbamos a encontrar muchos sitios abiertos para tomar  «una cervecita» y un kebab, pero no nos queríamos quedar con las ganas de fotografiar el famoso skyline de la ciudad.

Desde el hotel tardamos cerca de 40 minutos caminando bajo un calor asfixiante y una humedad que debía superar el 90%, atravesando obras y más obras en un sin fin de calles cortadas y cruces imposibles. El premio no fue para tanto: edificios futuristas iluminados de forma hortera en una bahía demasiado ecléctica.
La verdad es que tampoco esperaba mucho más. Hicimos las fotos de rigor, unas risas y volvimos para el hotel a disfrutar de una ducha y ver si el aire acondicionado nos permitía dormir un par de horas antes de salir de nuevo para el aeropuerto.

Yo lo conseguí, y con el estómago bien lleno del desayuno (que también incluye Qatar Airways en el servicio) nos zampamos otras casi 9 horas de vuelo hasta Beijing. Eso si, esta vez con el pasaporte bien atado que el visado de China ya lo llevábamos solucionado y no hacía falta montar el show de nuevo :p .

(*) Doha es seguro para caminar por la noche sin problemas sea la hora que sea. Como mucho encontrarás algunos cingaleses y filipinos que vuelven del trabajo o catarís paseando en sus cochazos.

Explicame bien esto, que si me toca pasar por Doha de nuevo en una escala de más de 8 horas y llego con Qatar me dan habitación, traslado, desayuno?!?!?!!! pensé que no era cierto y a la vuelta dormimos en un banco del aeropuerto ….juas!! juas!! juas!!   4. @Pau porque no tienen nada… la verdad, para una escala de unas horas vale porque al menos ves algo pero para más???, no gracias… bueno, yo ahora mismo a un currito en Dubai tampoco le decía que no :p

    @María sastamente. Hay que ir al mostrador y supuestamente es a discrección de ellos pero si vas de buenas y dices que sabes que lo tienes te lo dan 😉
